Community-based tourism homestays' capacity to advance the Sustainable Development Goals: A holistic sustainable livelihood perspective

Community-based tourism is an approach to presumed achieve progress on SDG1 No Poverty and SDG11 Sustainable Cities Communities. In rural communities, homestays are a critical CBT component given tourists need lodging the capacity involve many village families. As result, h appear make positive contribution lifting whole families out of poverty while retaining decision-making within community. However, it not clear what true homestays' advance these SDGs when examining them from holistic sustainable livelihood perspective. This research adopts Livelihood Framework critically examine both benefits costs operating homestay. Taking case-study approach, semi-structured interviews, observation notes secondary sources were combined study homestay operators in destination Laos. Findings highlight that offers significant 11, however, extensive requiring collective planning management also uncovered.
